District quality reviews
We work with a district team building the capacity to self- assess and engage in continuous quality improvement.
We help school districts understand how their actions, culture, structures, and policies impact student learning and school performance. Reviews help districts improve plans and implement key strategies. To provide these insights, reviewers focus on five core domains:
- attainment, learning, teaching, curriculum, and assessment
- leadership, culture, governance, and accountability
- management of human and fiscal resources
- operational systems
- stakeholder engagement/satisfaction.
What is the District Quality Review?
A Cambridge team gathers evidence through interviews, focus groups, direct observation, and data analysis. Deep inquiry explains the root causes of current practice and results. Our rubrics, which are customized to meet the needs of each district, use specific criteria and indicators to rate the system and reveal the impact on student learning and school performance. The results provide district leaders with the insight to plan actions, build on strengths, and instigate change.
Our three-stage review process includes preparation (customization/self-review), on-site investigation, and post-review feedback. This transparent process enables stakeholders to understand the evidence used in reviewer judgments.

Who are the reviewers?
Reviewers are educators with wide and varied experience in school district and systems improvement. They undertake rigorous training for each review process, follow a continuous assessment procedure, and participate in extensive on-going support and training. We work with states, districts, and schools to train and certify educators to develop peer review systems at all levels.
